At first, I saw this part of the 'happiness agenda' as characterised by (Lord) Richard Layard (below, who has set up www.actionforhappiness.org as a mainstream encouragement to incremental quality of life enhancement.

This wing of the 'happiness movement'could claim to be the oldest, as it is involved largely in re-presenting Buddhist meditation and teachings in a way that connects with the contemporary (Western?) psyche and general scepticism about how ancient wisdom is pedalled?.
